The King Abdulaziz Public Library Foundation is a Saudi cultural, scientific, and charitable institution. It is dedicated to serving authors and researchers, facilitating access to information and knowledge for scholars using modern and advanced systems. Additionally, it focuses on the heritage of the Founding King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud.

Establishment

The King Abdulaziz Public Library Foundation was established as a charitable institution by King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in 1985. It was inaugurated by him in 1987 to look after matters relating to the book and those who benefit from it. The library’s legal architecture was completed with the granting of supreme approval in 1996 for the establishment of a charity under the name of the King Abdulaziz Public Library. It aimed to provide, organize, and facilitate the use of the sources of human knowledge and make them available to researchers and scholars.

Services

The King Abdulaziz Public Library Foundation provides exceptional library and information services for women and children through a women’s library and a children’s library at its headquarters in Riyadh City, as well as similar facilities at its al-Murabba branch. The library has a keen interest in documenting the history of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and King Abdulaziz. It also monitors the Arab and Islamic heritage, seeking to revive it and publicize it in a way that suits the spirit and requirements of the time.

Activities

The King Abdulaziz Public Library Foundation engages in scientific and cultural activities that serve the community through holding symposia, lectures, and exhibitions, participating in religious, national, and social events, supporting scientific research, writing, translation and publishing, developing children's culture, and providing information services for women.

Projects

The King Abdulaziz Public Library Foundation has strong relationships with information institutions both inside and outside the Kingdom. It has implemented cultural projects such as the King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz International Translation‏ Award, the Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Award for Cultural Cooperation between Saudi Arabia and China, the Unified Arab Index, the Arab Digital Library, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Encyclopedia, the National Cultural Project for the Renewal of Our Relationship with the Book, the Children's Book Club, and the Arab-Chinese Digital Library.

Strategic goals

The King Abdulaziz Public Library Foundation has a set of strategic goals, including: enhancing comprehensive access to knowledge, enriching cultural and civilizational content, generating, managing, organizing, and disseminating knowledge content, developing, preserving, and publishing heritage content, improving institutional performance and efficiency, advancing technological progress and digitizing content, achieving financial sustainability and diversifying income sources and building local, regional, and international partnerships.

Upon its establishment, the King Abdulaziz Public Library Foundation set a group of goals, including providing and organizing intellectual production resources, focusing on collecting and documenting both Arab and foreign intellectual production, conducting research related to the history of the Founding King Abdulaziz and the history of the Kingdom in general, spreading knowledge, culture, and sciences, focusing on Arab and Islamic heritage and contributing to its revival and renewal, providing library services, translation, and scientific publishing, supporting writing, translation, and scientific publishing in the fields of Arab and Islamic sciences, contributing to community service by organizing cultural and scientific lectures, symposia, exhibitions and festivals, and creating and documenting both Arab and foreign intellectual production in the fields of horses and equestrianism to support specialized research and studies in this area.
