Monuments of ad-Disah Village are a collection of archaeological evidence located in ad-Disah Village in Tabuk Province, northwest of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The village is approximately fourteen km southwest of Tabuk City. In 2018, the Public Investment Fund announced a project to develop its valley near the Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Nature Reserve.

Archaeological evidences in ad-Disah Village

Ad-Disah Village contains numerous archaeological evidence including tombs, petroglyphs, Nabatean and Arabic inscriptions written in Kufic script, and archaeological remnants of settlements that inhabited the area. To preserve this heritage, the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (formerly) placed a fence around the archaeological sites of ad-Disah Village for protection. Ad-Disah means the dense palm valley, and Disah Wadi Damah became famous for its palm trees and springs bursting from the Qaraqir mountains, flowing into the valley amidst palm trees, reeds, and dense papyrus leaves throughout the year.

Archaeological sites in ad-Disah Village

Ad-Disah Village contains archaeological sites representing remnants of residential settlements, such as al-Musharraf, al-Sukhnah, and al-Maskunah. Some historians believe that ad-Disah is the homeland of the people of al-Rass mentioned in the Holy Quran. Ad-Disah also comprises an ancient village containing Nabatean tomb facades carved into rock but incomplete, along with remnants of residential building walls, and some Nabatean and Arabic inscriptions in Kufic script.

Development of Wadi ad-Disah

The location of ad-Disah Village is associated with its valleys, which are part of a future investment area in the Kingdom. It sits amidst the northwestern projects of Saudi Vision 2030 including NEOM, Amaala, and the Red Sea Project. Additionally, it is situated near al-Hijr, one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the north of al-Ula Governorate.

On November 20, 2018, Wadi ad-Disah area became part of the developmental works of the Public Investment Fund under the name Wadi ad-Disah Development Project as part of the Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Royal Reserve. This project aims to preserve the environment and wildlife of the valley while harnessing its tourism potential, including its moderate climate, distinctive mountainous terrain, and year-round flowing springs, to become one of the Kingdom's tourist attractions.

The Public Investment Fund will establish a company to develop the project according to globally approved environmental and developmental standards. This initiative aims to create added value for sustainable tourism, job opportunities, economic diversification support, and maximizing the utilization of underutilized assets in the Kingdom.

Wadi ad-Disah is located northwest of the Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Royal Reserve, with an elevation of four hundred m above sea level. The temperature in Wadi ad-Disah varies from twelve degrees Celsius in winter to thirty-one degrees Celsius in summer, with an average rainfall for eight months per year. In Wadi ad-Disah, the landscape features diverse forms of mountains and rocky cliffs, characterized by towering rock pillars, along with the presence of freshwater springs.
