Wadi Hali Dam is one of the water dams in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is located on the western side of the Kingdom, specifically in al-Qunfudhah Governorate, Makkah al-Mukarramah Province.

Wadi Hali Dam construction

Wadi Hali Dam is of the concrete type. It was constructed in 2010, and a purification station was built on it to supply water to Makkah al-Mukarramah, al-Qunfudhah, al-Lith, and Mahayil Aseer cities, with a production capacity of up to one hundred thousand m per day. Its length from the summit is 384 m, while its spillway length is 179 m. It is equipped with four drainage gates depending on the water levels.

The dam was built on Wadi Hali. The valley's length is about 160 km and its average slope is 17.5 m/km. It originates from the center of as-Sudah in Aseer Province. It empties into the Red Sea after passing through several centers and governorates, and is fed by many valleys, including Wadi Teeh and Wadi Baqra. As for its mouth, it empties into the sea near Makhshoush village.

Wadi Hali Dam technical characteristics

The storage capacity of Wadi Hali Dam reaches 254 million m, its height is about fifty-seven m, and stores about 36.5 million m at an annual rate. It is considered the second largest dam in the Kingdom in terms of size and water storage capacity after the King Fahd Dam in Bishah.

Wadi Hali Dam construction objectives

Wadi Hali Dam was constructed for many objectives, including securing water and developing its sources, supporting farmers with water resources, developing agriculture in al-Qunfudhah Governorate and making it prosperous, and warding off the dangers of torrents and floods from the cities and villages located next to the dam, in addition to providing pure and drinkable water.
