Madinah Heritage District

The Madinah Heritage District is a heritage site in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It embodies the city’s architecture and folklore heritage in its houses, exterior, market, library, and coffee shops.

The district encompasses selected elements of the urban structure of al-Madinah al-Munawwarah. It reflects the city's commitment to preserving the content of urban heritage concepts. The district also constitutes a reference for specialists and those interested in al-Madinah's cultural and social architecture, as visitors to the district notice that it differs from contemporary urban construction.

The district was developed as a model that mimics the historic al-Madinah al-Munawwarah. It embodies many of its urban features in its ancient neighborhoods, houses, Rawashin, and architecture. It was built with an intellectual vision based on creating a heritage district for al-Madinah al-Munawwarah, that preserves the identity of its urban and architectural history. It also safeguards the traditional urban features and heritage details that are still firmly entrenched in the minds of the seniors and the elderly, who lived there half a century or more ago.

Visitors to Madinah Heritage District will find many heritage products and styles, including herbal shops and household pottery, such as pots and jars of various sizes, as well as clay cooking pots and plates. The district also showcases old clothes, textiles and shoes, and some handicrafts that were produced using palm leaves, embroidered with distinctive folkloric patterns.

The Madinah Heritage District was launched in 2015, covering an area of 120,000 m, thus forming a model for the old city districts. It includes a model of al-Uyaynah commercial street, the historic closed districts, and buildings of ancient architectural style. It also harbors al-Madinah theater area, connected to open terraces overlooking a square reserved for activities and events.
