Al-Naslaa Rock

Al-Naslaa Rock is a conical rock formation approximately eight m in height, split into two almost equal halves as if cut by a sharp tool. Each section is supported by a precise rock base. The rock is located in Mount Nuslah, southwest of Tayma' Governorate, affiliated with Tabuk Province, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Al-Naslaa Rock formed due to weathering by wind and atmospheric factors, with an estimated age of around four hundred million years. It bears several Thamudic archaeological inscriptions, some dating back to three thousand years, alongside drawings of various animals. Locally, it is known as 'Hasat al-Naslaa', named for its prominence or isolation from the nearby mountains.

The local name 'Hasat al-Naslaa' is shared by al-Naslaa Rock with Antarah Rock, which is associated in Arab culture with the Arab poet Antarah Ibn Shaddad. Antarah Rock is located in Uyun al-Jiwa Governorate, affiliated with Qassim Province.

Al-Naslaa Rock is considered both a historical and natural landmark due to its formation, which includes a precise split resulting in the rock splitting into two halves. The reason for this precise split is a matter of debate and has several explanations. However, the scientific explanation suggests that the displacement of the left side of the rock caused the split, as the left side is weaker and smaller compared to the stronger and larger right base.

Al-Naslaa Rock is located in Tayma' Governorate, which includes several archaeological, touristic, and heritage sites. The rock is one of the prominent tourist attractions along the governorate's tourism route, attracting visitors to admire its natural beauty and the archaeological inscriptions on its surfaces. Tayma' Governorate was historically a commercial and economic center, traversed by ancient trade caravans, and was inhabited by various civilizations due to its abundance of water, fertility of soil, and moderate climate.

The inscriptions and drawings on al-Naslaa Rock highlight the historical significance of the province in past eras. Some of the inscriptions depict the way of life of the inhabitants during that time. Its surfaces feature drawings of birds and reptiles in various forms. Additionally, there are inscriptions on its smooth and rugged surface describing valleys and plains, which were used as navigation landmarks by ancient caravans.
