The University of Hail (UOH) is one of the Saudi public universities and one of the eight universities that were established during the reign of King Fahd Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. It is headquartered in the city of Hail, in the north of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Establishment of the University of Hail
The University of Hail was established on June 7, 2005. The Hail Community College, which was founded in 1998, is the core of the current university. The college was affiliated with King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals at the time and continued its activities for seven years until it became an independent institution under the name 'University of Hail'. The university recorded 34,684 male and female students, while the number of its faculty members reached 1,030, according to statistics for the 2020 academic year.
University of Hail's colleges
The University of Hail comprises fourteen colleges specializing in diverse fields including sciences, health, engineering, administration, humanities, and social sciences.
The university has several deanships, including: Scientific Research, Quality and Development, Postgraduate Studies, Admission and Registration, and Student Affairs, in addition to the Deanship of Information Technology and E-Learning, and others.
University of Hail's achievements
The University of Hail, through its College of Medical Sciences, demonstrated a commitment to scientific research. In 2019, it achieved notable success by winning two excellence awards for scientific production among Saudi universities in global databases. These include the Saudi Digital Library award for the highest impact scientific production in the SCOPUS database, as well as the Saudi Digital Library award for the most productive scientific output in the same database.
Research chairs at the University of Hail
The University of Hail hosts ten research chairs, including: the Chair for Research on Women, the Prince Saud Bin Abdul Mohsen Chair for Studies of Civil and Charitable Work in the Kingdom, al-Jazeera Chair for Cultural and Social Development in Local Communities, the Dr. Nasser al-Rasheed Chair for Hail Studies, and the Dr. Nasser al-Rasheed Chair for Future Pioneers.
University of Hail's logo
The University of Hail's logo consists of three colors: blue, white, and yellow. In the center, the word 'Hail' is engraved in Arabic, alongside the university's name in English, and its founding year in both Hijri and Gregorian dates.
University of Hail Award for Excellence
In 2021, the University of Hail launched the 'University of Hail Award for Excellence'. It is an annual award that aims to honor distinguished university employees, faculty members, researchers, administrators, and students, supporting the spirit of competition and raising the level of excellence. The award has defined a set of different criteria for evaluation. The award includes five branches: The University of Hail Award for Excellence in Teaching, The University of Hail Award for Excellence in Scientific Research, The University of Hail Award for Excellence in Creativity, the University of Hail Award for the Distinguished Employee, and The University of Hail Award for the Distinguished Student.
University of Hail in international rankings
Building further on the achievements made, the University of Hail was ranked among the best 351 universities globally and was ranked ninth in the Arab world. Locally, the university ranked fifth among Saudi universities in the Times University Ranking for 2023.
