Saudi Accreditation Center (SAAC) is an internationally recognized center responsible for accrediting various conformity assessment entities, including laboratories, inspection entities, and certification entities, in accordance with defined controls and methodologies, within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
SAAC history
SAAC was established in 2019. It is an extension of the National Accreditation Committee established in 2004. It enjoys a legal personality, administrative autonomy, and financial independence. It is organizationally affiliated with the Minister of Commerce.
SAAC's headquarters is located in the capital, Riyadh. It has an organizational structure consisting of a board of directors and a number of committees and departments that organize its work affairs. According to SAAC's organizational arrangements, the state supports its budget for five years from the date of its establishment, and then the budget is disbursed from its revenues.
SAAC tasks
SAAC grants accreditation certificates to conformity assessment entities, such as calibration and testing laboratories. These labs assess products and ensure their conformity with the specifications and standards adopted in the Kingdom. They also work in various fields, such as construction and building materials, textiles, food, agriculture, electrical, electronic, mechanical, and metal products, and others.
SAAC offers services to inspection and certification entities, including registering experts and technical assessors, submitting accreditation requests, reviewing the directory of accredited entities, and others.
SAAC carries out various roles, most notably: training and qualifying workers in the field of conformity assessment, publishing scientific research in its field of expertise, representing the Kingdom in international forums relevant to its activity, and carrying out its main tasks in approving conformity assessment facilities, in addition to concluding partnerships and signing memoranda of understanding with international organizations and authorities that carry out its activity.
International recognition
SAAC is an internationally recognized Saudi center from the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) through the Arab Accreditation Cooperation. In August 2021, SAAC signed the multilateral recognition agreement with ILAC. SAAC directly contributes to improving the economic level in the Kingdom by raising the level of trade exchange between the Kingdom and various countries around the world and improving the flow of goods and products to and from the international market.
