The Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration (SCCA) is a non-profit organization located in the capital, Riyadh. It officially represents the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in local and international arbitration and offers alternative services for dispute resolution (via arbitration or mediation) in accordance with international professional standards in both Arabic and English.
SCCA establishment
SCCA was founded by a decree issued by the Council of Ministers in 2014. Its board of directors is formed by an order of the Prime Minister, and none of its members may hold a government job or position.
SCCA is affiliated with the Council of Saudi Chambers. It enjoys a legal personality and is financially and administratively independent. It also has an independent board of directors.
SCCA tasks
SCCA oversees the arbitration procedures initiated by parties who agree to resolve their disputes through SCCA and abide by its rules. This includes managing the arbitration process, compiling a roster of qualified arbitrators within SCCA's area of expertise, and establishing guidelines for determining the compensation and related expenses for arbitrators affiliated with SCCA. Moreover, SCCA offers training programs in arbitration, spreads the culture of arbitration and supports research in the field, and represents the Kingdom in local and international commercial arbitration.
SCCA's accession to IFCAI
Being the official representative of the Kingdom in international arbitration, SCCA announced in 2022 its accession to the International Federation of Commercial Arbitration Institutions (IFCAI), which was established in 1985 and encompasses fifty-two international arbitration centers that provide alternative services for dispute resolution.
