Ghaliyya Bint Abdulrahman al-Bogammy was a historical figure and a Saudi leader, known for her bravery, and became famous by the name 'Ghaliyya al-Bogammiah.' She played a heroic role in the battles of the First Saudi State against the Ottoman military campaigns in Turbah, which is currently part of the Makkah al-Mukarramah Province in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Life of Ghaliyya al-Bogammiah

Ghaliyya al-Bogammiah was born in the Shanqal neighborhood in the Turbah Governorate (currently), into a family of prestige and wealth. She had a deep knowledge of the affairs of the surrounding tribes, and was also known for her wisdom, determination, sound judgment, and good counsel.

Ghaliyya al-Bogammiah's after the death of her husband

Ghaliyya al-Bogammiah married Hamad Bin Abdullah Bin Muhi, the Governor of Turbah during the First Saudi State era, who died while resisting the Ottoman military campaigns that entered Turbah before heading to Diriyah. After her husband's death, Ghaliyya's council became a hub for struggle and motivating efforts to repel the enemies. She would strengthen the resolve of her tribe and the defending army in Turbah, gathering in her husband's palace to consult and discuss battle plans, offering her opinion as the wife of the governor.

Ghaliyya al-Bogammiah's fight against the Ottomans

In 1813, Ghaliyya al-Bogammiah confronted Mustafa Bey's campaign against Turbah. She made her home the headquarters for the general command and meetings regarding the battle. She led a team of her men, gave a speech to encourage and motivate them to confront the enemy, and was at the forefront of the army, fighting in the battle. She and her army attacked the artillery division of the Ottoman forces, and the battle ended with their defeat, causing them to retreat, leaving behind ammunition and cannons.

She also confronted Ahmad Tusun's campaign against Turbah for the second time in 1814.
