Princess Seetah Bint Abdulaziz Award for Excellence in Social Work is a Saudi award given to distinguished individuals or companies in social work. The establishment of the Award's Foundation, which is an independent nonprofit legal entity, was approved in 2012. The headquarters of the Foundation is located in Riyadh, the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The first edition of the award was launched in 2013. Its theme was the economic and social empowerment of low-income women and youth. Up to 2022, the award was held in ten editions.

Objectives of Princess Seetah Bint Abdulaziz Award for Excellence in Social Work

The award aims at consolidating a culture of social, philanthropic, humanitarian, and volunteering work along with reinforcing its noble values, rooting and developing social institutional work in all its forms, honoring and encouraging distinguished people of both genders in social work, and motivating governmental and private bodies to excel and innovate in social work, supporting and encouraging the Islamic endowment to be the primary supporter of social work, and highlighting initiatives and efforts in social work.

Categories of Princess Seetah Bint Abdulaziz Award for Excellence in Social Work

Princess Seetah Bint Abdulaziz Award for Excellence in Social Work includes six categories: the National Achievement category for entities, the Excellence in the Islamic Endowment category for entities, the Excellence in Social Work Programs category for non-profit entities, the Social Entrepreneurship in Social Work category for individuals, the Social Responsibility category for profit companies, and the Environmental Sustainability category for individuals and entities.

The National Achievement Award for entities is granted for work, or multiple works, of non-profit organizations, whether public or private. It is not awarded again to a previous winner. The candidate is required to be a Saudi based in the Kingdom, registered with a governmental or private entity, not aiming for financial profit, to have a system operating with clear and specific mechanisms for planning, documentation, follow-up, and evaluation of the efficiency of the entity's activity according to specific performance indicators, and to not conflict with the general policies of the country in any way. It is also necessary to provide official documented evidence and work reports.

The Excellence in the Islamic Endowment Award for entities is given to an endowment carried by international organizations, local civil society organizations, universities and studies and research centers, or non-profit organizations. For a nomination to this award, the nominated endowment is required to be registered with the responsible official authorities, dedicated to serving humanity, consistent with the provisions of Islamic Sharia, and it must be general and not assigned to a class or group on an ethnicity, sectarian, or confessional basis.

The Excellence in Volunteering Programs Award for non-profit entities is granted for outstanding social programs offered through licensed institutional work or local civil society organizations. The Social Entrepreneurship in Social Work Award for individuals is given to individuals nominated by government entities and local institutions, universities, research and studies centers, and local civil society organizations.

The Social Responsibility Award for profit companies is also granted to companies to highlight their role in launching community-serving initiatives. The nominated work for this award is required to serve the Saudi community and be based in the Kingdom, characterized by originality, novelty, and innovation, not aiming for financial profit, and complying with the state’s general policies. The nominee must also attach policies, official reports, and documented evidence of work.

The Environmental Sustainability Award for individuals and entities is given to the projects of government entities, private institutions, companies, and individuals contributing to the protection of the environment and the enhancement of the quality of life. This category of the award aims to enhance environmental awareness within the community, by protecting the environment, fostering its sustainability, and contributing to the prosperity of developmental sectors to offer solutions to environmental issues and instilling the concept of sustainable development.

Terms of Princess Seetah Bint Abdulaziz Award for Excellence in Social Work

The award's terms include that the applicant should be of good conduct, have a clear professional career in his work and in supporting social work, be a candidate from an official body, and be supportive of social work with its distinct innovative and original ideas.

The winner of the award receives a certificate of appreciation that includes the name of the winning entity or individual in each of the award's topics, the date and reason for earning the prize, along the signature of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees. The winner also receives a medal bearing the name and logo of the foundation, the year of the grant, and the name of the winner in the award's topic, in addition to a cash prize of SAR300 thousand.
