Al-Ma'arek Mosque is a historic mosque located in Wahtan Neighborhood of Buraydah City, in Qassim Province of the north-central part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was established over 160 years ago and remains an active place of prayers today.

Significance of al-Ma'arek Mosque

The mosque was rebuilt in 1973 and is named after Ali al-Ma'arek, who led prayers there for around thirty-five years. Ali al-Maarek expanded and restored the mosque twice. It was later renovated in 2014 under the supervision of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (formerly).

Design of al-Ma'arek Mosque

Built in Najdi architectural style, the mosque's structure consists of mud and stone, with a roof made of tamarisk wood and palm fronds. The mosque covers an area of approximately three hundred m. It consists of the Minaret, located to the east of the mosque, a standalone conical minaret that rises about five m above ground level; the Prayer Hall, situated at the center of the mosque, featuring two parallel arcades aligned with the Qibla wall; Khulwa, located west of the prayer hall; and Sarha (courtyard), a rectangular open courtyard situated northeast of the mosque, enclosed by walls on three sides. The mosque has two main entrances located on the southern side.
