The Saudi Tourism Society is a Saudi scientific society affiliated with the College of Tourism and Archaeology at King Saud University, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. On January 08, 2014, the Council of King Saud University approved the establishment of the society.
Tasks of the Saudi Tourism Society
The society fosters communication and joint collaboration among scholars, researchers, practitioners, and public and private entities within the tourism and hospitality industry. The society hosts scientific conferences, courses, and lectures, promotes scientific research, and raises awareness of its role in enhancing the tourism and hospitality business in the Kingdom, as it seeks to monitor tourism phenomena and develop the sector scientifically and professionally.
Objectives of the Saudi Tourism Society
The society contributes to supporting and encouraging research projects related to the structures and functions of tourism agencies and facilities. It also produces and publishes research, studies, and development projects pertaining to the tourism and hospitality industry and its various sectors. Moreover, it offers specialized consultancy to stakeholders in the fields of tourism and hospitality.
In addition to adopting specialized scientific and professional approaches to identify issues and challenges within the sector, the society studies tourism products and services offered by the entities operating in the field, submits proposals and offers related to the implementation of tourism plans, and contributes to setting the regulations and standards that enable growth and sustainability within the national tourism industry.
Furthermore, the society takes part in the regulation and development of the tourism and hospitality sector, boosting the tourism services' efficiency, and training human competencies. It also collaborates with local and global authorities to establish ethical guidelines for professional conduct in the field of tourism and hospitality.
Membership of the Saudi Tourism Society
The Saudi Tourism Society grants three memberships; a professional membership granted to any person who would like to join the society upon holding an academic certificate of no less than a bachelor's degree in the field of tourism or any relevant branch, an affiliate membership granted to professionals and those interested in the field of work of the society, regardless of whether they meet the educational qualification eligibility condition or not, and a student membership granted to male and female students, where members of this category are granted all the benefits extended to affiliate members.
