Saudi Society for Palliative Care

The Saudi Society for Palliative Care is a scientific association in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia supervised by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties. It aims to introduce palliative medicine into Saudi society based on correct foundations and unify efforts to improve medical care services offered to patients, and strives to establish programs, set standards, and conduct research.

The Saudi Society for Palliative Care seeks to advance medical care offered to patients and boost their quality of life by supporting and guiding both patients and their families.

The society also works in accordance with a plan aimed to achieve specific objectives, including holding an annual conference on palliative care, expanding the scope of services, adhering to the scientific guidelines for offering palliative care based on correct foundations, holding specialized gatherings on palliative care for the medical community and meetings for the community as a whole, and improving services offered to patients.

The society encompasses four committees: the Media Committee, which offers several services by raising public awareness on palliative care through audio, visual, and written media, in addition to issuing publications and organizing the events of the society. The Financial Resources Committee proposes plans and projects aimed to contribute to fostering the society's financial resources.

The Professional Development Committee offers various activities, including lectures, workshops, and scientific conferences to instill palliative care's scientific concepts and foster the functional roles of health practitioners within this field.

The Legal Committee specializes in establishing regulations for the society's internal and legal structure, completes legal procedures in favor of the society, and offers legal opinions on matters related to the society, its work, and its board of directors. It also assists the other committees by reviewing contracts, correspondence, and partnership agreements concluded with other parties.

The Saudi Commission for Health Specialities oversees the work of the Saudi Society for Palliative Care. The commission was established in 1992. It serves as a scientific and professional commission aimed at fostering health by establishing a competent health practitioner base. It also seeks to classify and assess holders of health specialization qualifications and oversee the scientific and professional training programs for qualifying health-specialized staff to offer care to patients efficiently and humanely.
