Feed refers to any material prepared for animal nutrition, whether it is a single substance, a blend of materials, a manufactured or semi-manufactured product, a raw material, or a component used in the preparation, processing, or production of feed. These materials may originate from authorized plant or animal sources, or aquatic organisms. Feed products in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are diverse. According to the 'Feed Product Registration Guide,' they include:

- Raw feed: These are materials that have not been mixed with other substances and are used directly to feed animals. Examples include grain products, secondary grains, green fodder, bulky and coarse fodder, and animal and plant protein products.

- Feed additives: These are components intentionally added to feed for a technical purpose, to enhance the animal’s productive efficiency, or to improve its nutritional value. According to the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, the approved feed additives include vitamins, minerals, amino acids, yeasts, enzymes, texture enhancers, acidity regulators, and flavor enhancers.

- Mixtures of feed additives: These are mixtures added to water, consisting of two or more feed additives such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids, or enzymes, or carrying an approved substance. Such mixtures can be intended for direct animal consumption or used in feed mills to improve feed efficiency.

- Compound feed: This is a mixture of raw feed provided directly to the animal. It is categorized into animal feed, mineral salts, milk substitutes, and special feeds. An agreement was established between the Saudi Industrial Development Fund and the Agricultural Development Fund to support and finance the compound feed industry in major cities at an estimated funding rate of 60 to 70 percent.
