The Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee was established as a supreme body with an independent legal personality, supported by the country to achieve its objectives. It is the sole entity representing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in continental and international Olympic organizations.

After the Kingdom established five national federations as members of international federations—Athletics, Football, Volleyball, Basketball, and Cycling—it joined the International Olympic Committee.

The committee is recognized under the supervision of the Olympic Council of Asia, embracing the Olympic movement and values by developing, promoting, and protecting the Olympic movement in the Kingdom in accordance with the Olympic Charter.

The Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee successfully prepared its first sports delegation to participate in the Summer Olympics held in Munich, sending seven athletes from the Saudi Arabian Athletic Federation.

The Saudi Federation for People with Disabilities was established under the leadership of Prince Faisal Bin Fahd Bin Abdulaziz.

The official establishment of the Saudi Paralympic Committee.

A resolution was issued to merge the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee and the Saudi Paralympic Committee into a single entity under the name: Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee.
