The Buqayq Archaeological Cemeteries are burial sites dating back to ancient human settlements. They are similar in history, archaeological composition, and artifacts to the cemeteries found in Dhahran, located in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Location of Buqayq Archaeological Cemeteries

The Buqayq Archaeological Cemeteries are located east of the Dammam-to-al-Ahsa road, approximately fifteen km from the main Dammam-al-Ahsa highway and twenty km from Buqayq. The site contains around one thousand cairn graves.

Significance of Buqayq Archaeological Cemeteries

The significance of the Buqayq Archaeological Cemeteries lies in their tourism potential and their cultural and historical value. Their importance is further enhanced by their strategic location in the middle of the desert, in an area attractive during the winter and spring seasons. This region is popular for recreational camping and is known for its truffles. Nearby, there is a large lake frequented by migratory birds, adding to the area's appeal. Located just two km from the Dammam-Buqayq road is the Sabkhat al-Milh (Salt Flat), a site of intangible cultural heritage where visitors can observe traditional methods of salt extraction, as well as how locals process and transport it.
