The first Saudi novel to win the International Prize for Arabic Fiction 'Booker' is 'Throwing Sparks' (Tarmee Bi Sharar) by Saudi novelist and story writer Abdo Khal in 2010. Abdo Khal has been a writer of short stories and novels in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since the 1980s.
Abdo Khal was born in al-Majannah Village in Jazan Province, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in 1962. He spent his childhood in Riyadh City, and earned a bachelor's degree in political science from King Abdulaziz University in 1987. He worked in teaching and began his journalism career in 1982. He has several literary contributions.
Abdo Khal published numerous novels and story collections. His first story collection, 'Dialogue at the Gate of the Earth,' was released in 1984, and his debut novel, 'Death Passes from Here,' came out in 1995.
