The Saudi Green Initiative plays a vital role in reducing carbon emissions by achieving several targets by 2030, namely: Generating 50 percent of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s electricity from renewable energy sources, contributing to a global reduction of methane emissions by 30 percent, reducing annual carbon emissions by over 278 million t, and paving the way for net-zero emissions by 2060. To support these efforts, the initiative aims to plant ten billion trees across the Kingdom, equivalent to rehabilitating seventy-four million ha of land over the coming decades.

Since the program's launch in 2021, more than fifty million trees have been planted across the Kingdom under the campaign "Let's Make It Green." The initiative also commits to protecting 20 percent of the Kingdom's terrestrial and marine areas by 2030 and increasing the proportion of reserves to over 30 percent of the Kingdom’s total land area. Currently, protected areas account for approximately 17 percent of the country's land.
