
Sara Althari is a Saudi researcher in the fields of biology, genetics, and genomics. She is the Supervisor for Bio-Technology and Drugs Department at the Ministry of Investment where she is also an advisor to the Minister of Investment.
Beginnings of Sara Althari
She was born in Washington, United States of America, where she spent her childhood before relocating to Riyadh City, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Her mother tongue was initially English. Due to her poor proficiency in Arabic, her mother, Khawla Alkuraya enrolled her in a Saudi school in Riyadh to learn Arabic.
Sara Althari was greatly inspired by her mother, Khawla Alkuraya, despite her attempts to discourage her from studying medicine. However, she encouraged her to delve into general knowledge and advised her to study biology to realize whether she wanted to develop her knowledge therein and identify the relevant subsequent steps. She also fostered her sense of adventure, curiosity, and experience, and guided her through balancing her work and life.
Academic qualifications of Sara Althari
Sara Althari enrolled at Wellesley College, a women's arts college in the United States that supports dialogue, debate, and critical thinking, where she obtained a bachelor's degree in biological sciences and anthropology.
Upon graduation from Wellesley College, she worked at the community college in Boston for a year before working as a research assistant to the then-president of the American Society of Human Genetics. She obtained a doctoral degree in genetics and genomics from the University of Oxford in 2018.

Sara Althari was appointed senior research manager at the Mohammed Bin Salman Foundation (Misk) and worked as a research assistant at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School between 2013 and 2014.
