The Geological Risk Base platform is one of the digital platforms established by the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources in 2023, and the first scientific educational digital platform focusing on geological hazards in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Platform objectives

The Geological Risk Base platform aims to achieve several objectives related to seismic data and make them available as a digital web page that comprises all information related to such data and maps within the Kingdom and its surroundings.

Furthermore, the platform accelerates the activation of the agreements and orders implemented by the Saudi Geological Survey, including studies and seismic risk assessments in different sites. It also contributes to providing technical solutions to ward off potential risks in the future and supports studies to improve infrastructure. Additionally, the platform encompasses large seismic data, which will support research and spread awareness about geological hazards.

Platform advantages

The Geological Risk Base provides several advantages to beneficiaries, enabling any user to view seismic activity data everywhere; it also allows them to view corresponding data and maps and acquire information easily. Additionally, the platform helps researchers and professionals to request and utilize that data in scientific research studies.

Geohazards Research Center

The Saudi Geological Survey provides extensive data through the Geohazards Research Center, which aims to identify and classify potential geological and natural hazards in the Kingdom and build a comprehensive database that includes the types, locations, and geological and geotechnical details of hazards, as well as their potential impacts. The center assesses these hazards and provides through specialized software appropriate scientific advice to mitigate their effects.

Furthermore, the Geohazards Research Center monitors all matters related to geological and natural hazards, whether these hazards are caused by natural factors or are related to human activities due to the misuse of natural resources. The center also tracks seismic and volcanic activity in the Kingdom, oversees the entire network, follows up with concerned government agencies, and officially notifies them of seismic events and geological hazards. Additionally, the center provides an up-to-date information base for all Saudi universities and research centers, conducts specialized studies, and holds awareness campaigns necessary to deal with these activities and their impacts.
