The fifteenth century
At-Turaif District is located in ad-Dir'iyyah, northwest of Riyadh, the current capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Mani' Bin Rabi'a al-Muraydi, the great ancestor of Al Saud, chose the district as his residence.
The eighteenth and nineteenth centuries
At-Turaif District became home to the Royal Family and flourished as a political and religious center.
2010
The district was inscribed on the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage List during the thirty-fourth session of the World Heritage Committee, held in Brasília, Brazil.
2017
Diriyah Gate Development Authority was established to preserve and restore the historic and global at-Turaif District.
2018
At-Turaif District Development Program was launched as part of the Historic ad-Dir'iyyah Development Program. Hence, the district became an open-air museum and a cultural and tourist hub.
2023
Ad-Dir'iyyah Development Program joined the Public Investment Fund portfolio as its fifth mega project.
