Al-Safa Mosque is a historical mosque situated in Baljurashi Governorate, al-Bahah Province, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is at a distance of around twenty-seven km from al-Bahah City and is located around 3.5 km southwest of Baljurashi Governorate building. It is one of the mosques covered by the second phase of Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques.
History of al-Safa Mosque
Al-Safa Mosque was first built more than 1,350 years ago, thus becoming the oldest mosque in al-Bahah Province. Some tales state that it was built by the companion Sufian Bin Aouf al-Ghamdi.
Area of al-Safa Mosque
Al-Safa Mosque covers a pre- and post-development area of seventy-eight m. The mosque will maintain a capacity of thirty-one worshipers upon its renovation, namely since the Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques adopts a set of approaches aimed at maintaining historical and design-related values.
Role of al-Safa Mosque in the past
In the past, al-Safa Mosque assumed a social role. It was a meeting site for the residents of the village, upon finishing their work, especially in the period between al-Maghrib and al-Ishaa prayers, to discuss their affairs and address their problems and disputes.
