Uhud Avenue is a project aimed at developing the road connecting the Prophet’s Mosque and al-Sayyid ash-Shuhada Square to Mount Uhud in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah, the western part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The project spans a distance of more than 2,700 m in each direction and is being implemented by the Municipality of al-Madinah al-Munawwarah Province.
Elements of the Uhud Avenue Project
The Uhud Avenue project includes more than 15,000 trees, seating areas, and retail outlets. The project is aesthetically designed with spaces that cater to the needs of various groups, featuring a dedicated pedestrian area, a bike lane, services for people with disabilities, and a central lane for shuttle buses that transport worshippers from the Prophet’s Mosque. This allows for smooth traffic flow for small vehicles along the road, which connects the northern part of the central area with the rest of al-Madinah al-Munawwarah. Additionally, the project aims to create a safe and healthy environment by reducing noise pollution and vehicle emissions in the area.
The project offers retail points along the road, designed in a simple and harmonious architectural style, under the supervision of the Madinah Region Development Authority. These retail points provide visitors with a variety of options for services and purchasing their food needs. The shops, uniformly designed along the pedestrian path, offer local, Eastern, Western, and African cuisines to cater to the preferences and needs of visitors. The retail outlets also offer buyers several options, including electronic payment services for purchasing goods such as dates, gifts, accessories, books, perfumes, and other products.
Aesthetic and heritage elements are spread along Uhud Avenue, constructed near the northern square of the Prophet's Mosque, allowing visitors to take commemorative photos. The lighting blends LED colors with the sidewalks and trees, preserving the beauty of the area and providing comfort to those visiting the avenue.
Objectives of the Uhud Avenue Project
The Uhud Avenue project falls under the Madinah Urban Humanization Program and serves as a historical and tourist addition for residents and visitors. The project aims to transform the avenue into an attractive hub for investments, with the goal of enhancing infrastructure, developing facades, reinforcing the architectural identity, and capitalizing on tourism potential. Additionally, the project seeks to turn the avenue into a fully integrated destination while highlighting historical landmarks for visitors.
The Uhud Avenue project contributes to the preparation of streets and roads in the northern part of the central area, along King Fahd Road towards the northern square of the Prophet’s Mosque. It provides environmentally friendly lighting, and tree planting, and enhances pedestrian spaces and sidewalks. The project also offers retail points for goods and food products, creates seating areas, and improves the urban landscape, ensuring that visitors enjoy comfort and tranquility in their movements from all directions to the Prophet’s Mosque.
