The Emirate of Najran Province is one of the emirates of the thirteen provinces in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is organizationally affiliated with the Ministry of Interior. Its responsibilities include coordination and cooperation with government entities in the planning stages to provide all services to citizens and residents.
The Emirate of Najran Province was established after the unification of the Kingdom and runs its business from its headquarters in Najran City on King Abdulaziz Road, which is twenty-seven km away from Najran Regional Airport. Its logo is taken from the visual identity of the Ministry of Interior.
Each emirate has a governor appointed by a Royal Decree with the rank of a minister. On November 12, 2014, a decree was issued appointing Prince Jalawi Bin Abdulaziz Bin Musaed Bin Jalawi as the Governor of Najran Province.
On April 22, 2017, a Royal Decree was issued appointing Prince Turki Bin Hathloul Bin Abdulaziz as the deputy governor of Najran Province with the top rank.
Governorates affiliated with The Emirate of Najran
The emirate of the region oversees six governorates. According to the Provincial Law issued on March 1, 1992, amended by a Royal Decree in 1993, each emirate consists of several governorates, divided into two categories: (A) and (B), in addition to several centers. This division considered the residential, geographical, and security conditions, transportation routes, environmental conditions, and the historical status of each governorate.
Category (A) governorates of Najran region include the governorate of Sharurah, while Category (B) comprises five governorates, which are Hubuna, Badr al-Janub, Yadamah, Thar, and Khibash. Combined, these governorates encompass about sixty-five centers.
Mandates of the Emirate of Najran
The Saudi Provincial Law standardized jobs, units, and administrative names, defining the hierarchy of officials across emirates, governorates, and centers. Specifically, the Deputy governor of the Region in the top rank, Undersecretary of the Emirate in the 14th rank or higher, Governor (A) in the 14th rank, Deputy Governor (A) and Governor (B) in the 12th rank, Head of Center (A) in the eighth rank, and the Head of Center (B) in the fifth rank.
The primary mandates of the Emirate of Najran Province include maintaining security, ensuring the course of justice in the province, verifying the efficiency and effectiveness of services provided to its citizens, and improving and developing those services.
Najran Region's population and area
The province's population is approximately 592,300 people, according to the 2022 Saudi census, equivalent to 1.8 percent of Saudi Arabia's population. The population density is around four people per km of its territory. Its total area is about 130,000 km, representing 6.6 percent of the Kingdom's total area.
