The Saudi Global Ranking "SGR" is the first international ranking for higher education institutions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was launched by the Education and Training Evaluation Commission (ETEC) on March 20, 2023, to develop human capital in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030.

Ranking Overview

This ranking is designed to classify educational and training institutions based on performance in specific areas. It applies a clear methodology with fixed indicators and metrics to highlight the institution's strengths or identify areas for improvement. The ranking categorizes institutions to spotlight factors that enhance the quality of education and training, increase competitiveness, improve institutional rankings, and help relevant entities make informed decisions based on the rank.

Ranking objectives and phases

SGR aims to achieve several objectives, including enhancing the quality and excellence of the educational process, improving efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability, and promoting institutional excellence among higher education institutions. It also seeks to align with the labor market, empower the community, foster sustainable development, and stimulate research, development, and innovation.

The ranking process involves multiple phases. It begins with the launch of an e-platform to gather data from higher education institutions and other certified entities. This data is reviewed for accuracy, processed, and analyzed. The results are then published annually on the ETEC website, other official communication channels, and the SGR website.

SGR Initiative was designed through five foundational phases. It began with initial surveys of the current situation and benchmarks, then the plan and methodology development phase. The third phase involved building the ranking matrix in terms of its areas and indicators. The fourth phase focuses on the final revision, while the fifth phase is evaluation, which resulted in the approved versions of the ranking matrices and categories. Efforts in this initiative were coordinated by the authority with the Ministry of Education, universities, and higher education institutions.
