SJAHI early beginnings
Both Saudi and Japanese governments signed a memorandum of understanding during King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud's visit to Japan in 1998 when he was Crown Prince. The agreement stipulated the commitment of both countries with the support of the private sector in both countries to establish an institute or college specialized in automobile technology and maintenance. This commitment was fulfilled with the establishment of the institute.
King Abdullah donated the land on which the institute was built. The land spanned over seventy thousand m and belonged to the National Guard in Jeddah City. On March 19, 2003, King Abdullah, then Crown Prince, inaugurated the institute in the presence of representatives from both the public and private sectors. Academic studies commenced on September 1, 2002. The institute is considered a unique experience, with manufacturers from one country and distributors from another coming together to establish it.
