Historical Zabal Castle is located north of Sakaka City in al-Jawf Province. As one of the oldest castles in the Arabian Peninsula, the Historical Zabal Castle dates back to the Nabataean era from the first century BC to the first century AD. The castle, built on the head of a rocky mountain, was renovated several times, the last of which was two hundred years ago. Built at a 50-meter height, the castle spans 5,600 m.
The castle formed a protective fortifying shield for Sakaka's people at the time, being the strongest military castle that stood firm in times of wars, conflicts, and attacks, in addition to securing the trading route between Iraq and the Levant.
Zabal Castle has four cone-shaped towers for surveillance, a number of meeting halls, in addition to two rooms surrounded by a stone and mud wall.
