The construction period of King Abdulaziz's palace in Qaryat al-Ulya in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia dates back to the twentieth century. This is evidenced by an inscription on a plaster plaque found in one of the northern rooms of the palace. The inscription reads: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. By the command of His Majesty King Abdulaziz al-Saud, al-Aali Palace was built in Qaryat al-Ulya under the supervision of His Highness Prince Saud bin Jalawi, the governor of al-Ahsa, in 1936.
The palace covers an area of 8,836 m² and is fortified with a massive wall. It was built using clay, stone, Tamarisk tree trunks, and palm fronds. It's known as al-Aali Palace and is located in a historic area to the northeast of Qariyat al-Ulya governorate. It was constructed on the old trade route that is connected to al-Kanhari road, serving as a governmental center for the administrative authority and a customs office overseeing trade from the Kingdom to the northeastern borders.
