Al-Jazirah is one of the newspapers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and is published daily from its headquarters in Riyadh, the capital. The first publication was in April 1960. During its early days, Al-Jazira was a monthly magazine. Established by Abdullah bin Khamis, the newspaper is published by Al-Jazirah Corporation for Press Printing and Publishing.
Al-Jazirah is one of the first daily newspapers in Riyadh after a royal decree was issued on 9 January 1964 terminating private ownerships of magazines and local newspapers and turning them into public foundations. Before the Decree, it was a monthly newspaper, then on 30 June 1964, the newspaper started publishing weekly, and on 20 September 1972, it began publishing daily.
The newspaper has reporters and editors based in several Arab and international capitals. As for its offices, they are dispersed across several cities within the Kingdom.
Contributions of Al-Jazirah Newspaper
To practice journalism efficiently and professionally, many writers trained in what is now called Al-Jazirah Press Academy. However, the newspaper's contributions are not limited to the press, as it has provided various arts and publications relevant to its field. On the other hand, Al-Jazirah's website was launched in 1997 making it one of the first Saudi newspapers to have a website.
