Transforming Al Ekhbariya Channel to Al Ekhbariya Company Network
On 27 December 2017, the Minister of Media issued an order to convert Al Ekhbariya channel into a (limited liability company) called Al Ekhbariya Company Network to be jointly owned by the Saudi Broadcasting Authority and Saudi Press Agency. This decision is the latest step to cope with rapid developments in local and international media.
The decision aims to develop Al Ekhbariya, an Arabic-language news channel, and to launch an English-language news channel. The company will be able to develop its experience regarding events coverage, follow-up of local and international news, and interact with variables to provide up-to-date Saudi media. Additionally, the decision aims to make a return on the investment in the media sector; and to create new platforms for digital distribution to reach a competitive content industry.
