Ain Zubaida extends from Wadi Nu'man at the top of Jabal Kara near Taif Governorate to Arafat Holy Site in Makkah al-Mukarramah City. It spans approximately thirty km in length and was established as a public endowment by Zubaida Bint Ja'far Bin Abi Ja'far al-Mansour, wife of Caliph Harun al-Rashid, during the eighth century. Its purpose was to provide water for the residents of Makkah al-Mukarramah and the pilgrims of the Grand Mosque. It is the oldest water network in Makkah al-Mukarramah City and is currently overseen by the General Authority for Awqaf.
Ain Zubaida was established in 802. During the reign of the Founding King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, a dedicated department named "Ain Zubaida" was created to supervise the spring and its associated wells and to carry out maintenance. The spring continued to flow for 1,200 years.
