The Saudi Association for Energy Economics, or the Association for Energy Economics, is a Saudi non-profit civil association. It aims to enhance the understanding of energy economics in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and provide a platform for discussing energy challenges and related industries. It was established on December 17, 2020, and is a member of the International Association for Energy Economics. Its headquarters is located in the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center in the capital, Riyadh.
Objectives of the Saudi Association for Energy Economics
The association aims to build capacities in the field of energy economics evaluation, professional and scientific development in the energy sector and its economics, support research, and studies to educate and raise awareness in society about the field, and stimulate dialogue and discussion on the challenges facing energy and related industries. It seeks to innovate appropriate solutions for all challenges facing the sector and to facilitate communication between individuals and entities interested in energy economics, whether they are governmental bodies, companies, universities, associations, or others.
Activities of the Saudi Association for Energy Economics
The association provides a range of services within its scope of work, including holding seminars and discussion sessions, hosting officials and experts from within the Kingdom and abroad to support its objectives, providing a platform for dialogue regarding the challenges facing energy and related industries, linking energy and economic relations in the global and Saudi contexts, enhancing the understanding of energy and economic relations by creating a network of academics, professionals, and interested parties, and interacting with stakeholders in the field of energy and economics to share ideas, expertise, and knowledge.
Partners of the Saudi Association for Energy Economics
The King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center, headquartered in Riyadh City, is a strategic supporting partner of the association. The Ministry of Energy supported the establishment of the association and sponsored its launch. The association joined the International Association for Energy Economics, whose secretariat is based in the United States. This non-profit organization was established in 1977 and has over three thousand members and about thirty chapters worldwide. The International Association for Energy Economics holds an international conference and regional conferences, and it publishes specialized periodicals.
The International Conference of the Saudi Association for Energy Economics
In the context of its work, the Saudi Association for Energy Economics, in cooperation with the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center, organized the forty-fourth International Conference of the International Association for Energy Economics in the capital, Riyadh, from February 4 to 8, 2023, under the theme 'Paths to a Clean, Stable, and Sustainable Energy Future'. This was the first time the forum was held in the Middle East.
The forum's themes addressed issues of traditional and renewable energy, environmental challenges, and the stability of energy markets, with the participation of over five hundred attendees from around the world. It discussed topics including economics, energy transitions and pathways, diversification of the energy mix, development and climate change, investment and financing in energy, transportation methods and technology, industrial efficiency and competitiveness, and energy market fluctuations and supply security.
