Al-Ehn Well is one of the many prophetic wells in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah, west of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. These wells date back to the era of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him (PBUH), and even earlier. Some are related to the Prophet's life, such as drinking from them, performing ablution, or passing by them, and others are connected to specific events from his life.
Researchers, historians, and government authorities have endeavored to identify and verify the authentic locations of ancient wells. The Saudi government has shown keen interest in restoring, preserving, and revitalizing these ancient wells, considering them a historical legacy and human landmarks associated with the social life of those who inhabited al-Madinah al-Munawwarah before and after the Prophet's migration.
Al-Ehn Well location
Al-Ehn Well is located in the highlands of al-Madinah al-Munawwarah and was used to irrigate an orchard belonging to Bani Umayah from al-Ansar, who lived there. Over time, its ownership was transferred to a member of al-Umary family a descendant of Umar Bin al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him. 'Al-Ehn' Well, also known as al-Awaly, is a pleasant well carved into the mountain.
The ownership of al-Ehn Well
It was mentioned that al-Ehn Well is also called al-Yasira Well. The Prophet (PBUH) is said to have visited this well, which was previously named Osra. He changed its name to al-Yasirah, performed ablution, and spat in it. The well was located within the dwellings of Bani Umayah from al-Ansar, carved into rocks and lined with matching black stones. Today, the well and its orchard are an endowment of Al al-Barzanji. Its water is fresh and sweet, enhancing the growth of palm trees, pomegranates, grapes, and lemons in its orchard.
