What Are the duties of the Research, Development, and Innovation Authority?
The duties of the Research, Development, and Innovation Authority in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia include supporting and encouraging the sector of research, development, and innovation, coordinating the activities of scientific research establishments and centers, and proposing policies and regulations, as well as providing funding for the sector.
The Research, Development, and Innovation Authority was established under Council of Ministers Resolution No. 612 dated June 1, 2021. It operates as an independent legal personality with financial and administrative independence and is organizationally linked to the prime minister.
The board of directors of the Research, Development, and Innovation Authority consists of a chairman appointed by order of the prime minister, while the members are representatives of the Ministry of Education, the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority, the Small and Medium Enterprises General Authority, the Local Content and Government Procurement Authority, and the National Industrial Development Center, as well as three members from the private sector and two members from the scientific research and university establishments sector.
