The plant is located in al-Uyaynah, which is administratively affiliated with ad-Dir'iyyah Governorate in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was inaugurated on February 21, 2017.
The desalination plant aims to reduce the negative impact on the environment, achieve the zero-brine discharge principle, and raise overall efficiency. The plant relies on solar energy to provide the electricity and heat necessary for operation. It consumes about 3.5 MW of electrical energy to produce five thousand m of desalinated water and seven hundred kg of salt.
