The Ancient Kingdoms Festival is one of the festivals organized by al-Ula Moments. It connects al-Ula with the governorates of Tayma' and Khaybar through cultural and historical experiences, and journeys that highlight the unique identity and history of each site. The festival links various historical locations in Khaybar and Tayma', enhancing cultural experiences through stories dating back thousands of years, expressing ancient Arab civilizations and kingdoms, and linking diverse cultures throughout history. It was held from November 11 to 27, 2022.
Al-Ula Moments is one of the tourism seasons in al-Ula Governorate, located in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah Province in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was launched by the Royal Commission for al-Ula on December 12, 2021, and its activities continued for more than three months.
Ancient Kingdoms Festival Events
The Ancient Kingdoms Festival included a variety of tourist activities and events designed to introduce the civilizations and history of al-Ula, Khaybar, and Tayma'. Examples of these activities included helicopter tours in the airspace of Khaybar, Nabatean culinary arts in Hijr, and innovative experiences that provide a modern gateway to life in the past.
The Ancient Kingdoms Festival included exploratory tours to learn about the history of kings and historical figures who lived in Tayma', as well as the volcanic rock formations in Khaybar. The events also included visits to archaeological sites in al-Ula, such as Hijr (Mada'in Salih), the first Saudi heritage site to be listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008, where an evening tour is held by candlelight between the Nabatean tombs at the site, along with other antiquities in al-Ula.
