The first Saudi radio station began broadcasting from Jeddah City, following the establishment of a general framework for its launch through a Royal Decree. The idea of establishing Saudi radio originated with King Saud Bin Abdulaziz when he was Crown Prince.
1955
The radio's broadcast evolved through new additions related to its technical setup, program development, ideas, and broadcast schedules.
1965
Radio broadcasting also began from Riyadh City, and the broadcast line was changed integrating general broadcasts into Riyadh Radio's program schedule, followed by a return to broadcasting from Radio Jeddah in subsequent programs. This was accompanied by the launch of Saudi International Radio, a network of stations broadcasting to countries around the world in multiple languages.
1972
The third phase of the development of Saudi radio, ongoing to this day, witnessed the inception and evolution of Quran Radio from Riyadh. It began with artistic and storytelling programs and continues to broadcast on all waves and satellites to all parts of the world.
2022
The Saudi Broadcasting Authority launched the first news radio station in the Kingdom, serving as the radio branch of al-Ekhbariya Channel.
