The Official Gazette in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is Umm al-Qura Newspaper. Its first issue was published on December 12, 1924, about eight years before the unification of the Kingdom. It was founded by the Founding King Abdulaziz Bin Abdulrahman Al Saud and was named Umm al-Qura after the name of Makkah al-Mukarramah mentioned in the Holy Quran.
It is one of the oldest newspapers and official publications in the Kingdom. King Abdulaziz founded it as a bridge to connect with the world of journalism and literature and as a link between cultures and peoples. The newspaper published news about the Founding King, his efforts, and his travels. It witnessed all political and military events, most notably World War II, covering and documenting events for nearly a century.
The newspaper was established before the unification of the Kingdom in 1932. In its early years, Umm al-Qura primarily published religious and political content alongside literary works. During the era of King Abdulaziz, the newspaper focused on educating readers and enriching the linguistic and literary movement in Saudi society.
