He was assigned the functions of the council necessary to conduct business, excluding the powers related to approving financial and administrative policies and regulations until the council was formed.

Established on August 8, 2023, following a decision of the Council of Ministers chaired by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque was transformed into a general authority. This authority is an independent legal entity with financial and administrative autonomy, and organizationally linked to the king.
