The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has placed significant emphasis on intellectual property and the rights of creators and innovators, with the first Intellectual Property Protection Law issued seven years after the unification of the Kingdom.

1939

Issuance of a law named distinctive marks, as the first Saudi law for intellectual property concerning trademarks.

1982

The Kingdom's accession to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and signing of international treaties with (WIPO).

2016

Approval of the Council of Ministers on the outlines for establishing the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property.

2017

Approval of the Council of Ministers on the arrangements regulating the establishment of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property.

2018

Issuance of the regulation for the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property and the start of its operation in the Kingdom.

2022

Approval of the formation of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property.
