The Fashion Commission is the entity responsible for fashion design activities across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including their development, production, exhibition, and preservation. This covers all related raw materials, accessories, and other components, spanning traditional, heritage, and contemporary fashion. Established in 2020, it stands as one of eleven cultural commissions approved by the Council of Ministers to be established simultaneously. It operates under the Ministry of Culture.
Its headquarters is located in Riyadh. The Fashion Commission is governed by a board of directors headed by the Minister of Culture who oversees the implementation of its plans, programs, and strategies, and makes all necessary decisions to achieve its objectives. The Fashion Commission's main role is to support the fashion community and develop an enabling environment for the sector. It places particular emphasis on covering all aspects of the value chain, spanning from design and production to development and the management of product lifecycle.
The Fashion Commission has a public legal personality and enjoys financial and administrative independence. Its operational budget is allocated annually by the Ministry of Culture. It is organizationally linked to the Minister of Culture, and both the Labor Law and the Social Insurance Law apply to its employees.
Fashion Commission tasks
In accordance with its organizational framework, the Fashion Commission carries out several tasks, mainly proposing the fashion sector's strategy and monitoring its implementation after approval from the Ministry of Culture. It also licenses activities within its scope of work. The Fashion Commission proposes draft laws and regulations required by its nature of work, as well as amendments to existing ones. It organizes and hosts conferences, exhibitions, events, and competitions. Furthermore, it represents the Kingdom in regional and international authorities, organizations, and forums. The Fashion Authority also encourages research, studies, and development in the field of fashion, and establishes a database for the fashion sector.
Fashion Commission initiatives
The Fashion Commission presents initiatives and events that enrich the cultural scene in the Kingdom, including the national competition WeavInk with the aim of involving creative students of fashion design to compete to present the best fashion designs. The calligraphy-inspired WeavInk competition was announced as part of the Year of Arabic Calligraphy 2021 initiatives. Additionally, the Fashion Commission launched Elevate, the fashion female leaders' program, to support ambitious young women in the emerging generation to contribute to the development of the fashion sector in the Kingdom.
The Fashion Commission's events also included its guidance program, 100 Saudi Brands, which selected 100 Saudi fashion designers to participate in a specialized one-year training and mentoring program, led by global fashion industry experts. Furthermore, the Fashion Incubator program is aimed at attracting creative Saudi talents in the fashion industry and providing a platform to enhance their entrepreneurial journey and enable them to become key players in the local, regional, and international fashion markets.

The Fashion Commission's logo features intersecting geometric shapes with white stripes, symbolizing different types of fabrics. It is inspired by the color scheme and logo of the Ministry of Culture, which mirrors the space within which Saudi creators thrive.
