Al-Maarefa University is a private Saudi university located in ad-Dir'iyyah Governorate, Riyadh Province, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Its programs are designed to contribute to sustainable development and the creation of knowledge in the Kingdom through three colleges that offer bachelor's and master's degrees in medicine, health sciences, and technology. On August 7, 2018, the Council of Ministers approved the transformation of "al-Maarefa Colleges of Science and Technology" into a private university named al-Maarefa University.
Classification and accreditations of al-Maarefa University
The programs at al-Maarefa University are designed by specialized academic consulting institutes and entities from within the Kingdom and abroad. The university is licensed and accredited by the Saudi Ministry of Education and has been locally accredited by the Education and Training Evaluation Commission. It received full institutional academic accreditation for the period from December 2020 until September 2025.
Al-Maarefa University was ranked among the best universities globally according to the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2022. It was placed in the 201-300 range globally out of 1,406 universities from 106 countries. Locally, it ranked fourth among twenty-two Saudi universities, and ninth in the Arab region out of 162 Arab universities.
Al-Maarefa University colleges
Al-Maarefa University offers its academic programs through three colleges: the College of Medicine, which provides a Bachelor of Medicine and General Surgery program; the College of Pharmacy, which includes the Department of Pharmacy Practice and the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences; and the College of Applied Sciences, which offers seven programs in Nursing, Respiratory Care, Anesthesia Technology, Emergency Medical Services, Computer Science, Information Systems, and Industrial Engineering.
The number of undergraduate students is 2,157, with 191 faculty members. There are 736 international students and approximately ninety-two international faculty members.
Al-Maarefa University scholarships
The university offers scholarships for outstanding new students who pay 50 percent of the tuition fees in advance, with other percentages based on specific conditions set by the university. Additionally, regular students who pay their tuition fees in advance can receive discounts of up to 15 percent. Outstanding students can receive semester scholarships of up to 50 percent. Furthermore, sibling students who are enrolled in the same semester can receive discounts: 15 percent for the second sibling and 20 percent for the third sibling and beyond.
The university, in partnership with the Maslak Educational Finance Fund, offers the "Maslak Loan Initiative." This initiative is designed for undergraduate students, providing them with the opportunity to study with an easy repayment plan that extends beyond graduation.
