Center of Excellence for Advanced Materials Research

The Center of Excellence for Advanced Materials Research is a research center established by King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah to explore new avenues for scientific research and technology in the field of designing and developing new materials applicable to contemporary technological life. The center is comprehensive and interdisciplinary, integrating science and technology, as well as advanced computer modeling and simulation.

The Center of Excellence for Advanced Materials Research activates a set of themes of excellence, including: synthesizing and developing organic or inorganic chemical materials with unique properties that have various applications in contemporary technologies. It also involves developing experimental techniques to characterize these new materials using different technologies, and developing technologies for using these materials based on the properties desired for applications, such as optical sensors, solar energy storage, information storage like computer disks, large and small display screens, and other applications like smart windows in homes, car glass, or sunglasses. The themes of excellence at the center also include the development of new polymers and polymer compositions for both conventional and various technological applications.

The center's objectives include preparing future scholars for Saudi universities and industry in order to apply experimental science, theoretical aspects, and simulation using computers, as well as providing a structure for interdisciplinary research within and outside the university, linking it to industry. This aims to enhance the efficiency of Saudi researchers by integrating research ideas and connecting them to practical applications.

The center's vision is to be a leader in research and education in the Kingdom and the Arab region in the field of advanced materials and their applications. This will be achieved through partnerships between universities, the private sector, and the government, by developing and applying research programs, and focusing on student participation in research and education.

The center's mission is to promote excellence in advanced materials science and technology in both research and education programs. The center will emphasize key issues that have an impact on society and the world. This mission can be accomplished by advancing research in important key technologies with importance to the Kingdom and the world, applying the research to real-world problems facing the Kingdom, and facilitating the transfer of technology to the industry to support the national industry to compete in the international market. This comes in addition to educating those technologies to a new generation of researchers to fill the needs of both governmental and private sectors, transforming research results into products and industries that add value to the national economy, encouraging cooperation with national and international research centers, and increasing the added value to the oil and gas industry through the development of new petrochemical products based on materials science, including polymers and composites.
