The number of coffee plants in Aseer Province reaches approximately forty thousand trees, spread across around three hundred farms. The annual coffee production in the region is about 240 t, thus occupying second place after Jazan Province as the richest coffee crop in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Coffee cultivation is concentrated in the mountainous highlands within two other provinces, Jazan and al-Bahah, producing two main types: Khawlani coffee and Harari coffee. Additionally, scattered areas in the Kingdom make contributions to coffee production.
Socially, coffee cultivation in the Kingdom has a high specificity. The coffee produced locally is linked to the preparation of Saudi coffee, a staple served at all celebrations and social occasions in the Kingdom. Regarded as a cultural symbol, the year 2022 was designated as the Year of Saudi Coffee in celebration of coffee.
