The Music Award is an annual national cultural award in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is awarded to instrumentalists, musical bands, voice actors, composers, and distributors. It aims to nurture Saudi talents in the music field, and motivate national music enthusiasts. It was launched as part of the National Cultural Awards initiative, which was announced by the Minister of Culture Prince Badr Bin Abdullah Al Saud in 2019. The first edition of the award was launched in June 2020.
Nomination mechanism for the Music Award
Nominations can be submitted directly by participants via the online platform, by other people if they believe that a candidate deserves to win or to be nominated, or by specialized committees at the Ministry of Culture. The candidates for the award are instrumentalists, bands, voice actors, composers, and distributors.
Conditions for the Music Award
To be eligible for nomination, the candidate must hold a Saudi nationality or be a son/daughter of a Saudi woman, and must be at least twenty-one years old. Moreover, the nomination information must be correct and complete. The candidate should have total ownership of all the public and intellectual rights for the submitted content, or at least partial ownership that enables the candidate to apply with the approval of the other parties, in addition to submitting the necessary documents to prove the partners' consent to the nomination. All submitted works must have been implemented during the two years prior to the nomination date.
Winners of the first edition
The results of the first edition of the Music Award were as follows: First Place: Zaina Emad Swelleh. Second place: Akram Ibrahim al-Matar. Third place: Reem Fahad Altamimi. Bandar Obaid Ibrahim won first place during the second edition.
