National Cohesion Index

The National Cohesion Index, developed by the King Abdulaziz Center for National Dialogue in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2018, examines the behaviors and practices exhibited by individuals and institutions in expressing individual and collective sentiments toward political, social, and security issues. It is a recognized local indicator measuring the level of national cohesion in the Kingdom, aiming to uphold unity values and reinforce national constants among citizens.

The National Cohesion Index plays a pivotal role in directing national programs. It supports the national cohesion dimensions in society and social unity. It serves as a trusted reference for decision-makers and experts, providing an enabling environment for institutions and entities to foster initiatives and projects that enhance national cohesion, thereby achieving the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.

The National Cohesion Index encompasses four sub-factors: social cohesion, reflecting the cultural desire of various social groups to coexist, share diverse resources, exchange mutual respect, and adhere to public laws and regulations; political cohesion, involving effective political organizations and institutions in the Kingdom, their level of harmony and integration to meet citizen needs; economic cohesion, focusing on the efforts of financial and commercial institutions in the state to reduce unemployment rates; and security cohesion.

The National Cohesion Index adheres to fundamental principles in its structure, considering the political, social, and cultural frameworks in the Kingdom. Each sub-factor is tailored to suit local cultural norms and align with modern directions in the Kingdom, such as Saudi Vision 2030.

The National Cohesion Index is designed based on previous intellectual foundations regarding the general concept, specifications, and types of indices, leveraging scientifically proven methodological approaches. The index ensures concept precision and type determination, and draws insights from previous Arab and international studies in index structure. It also regulates the index's developmental stages and methodological tools, incorporating a participatory approach through various consultative meetings among team members, forming a scientific advisory committee, and tapping into the opinions of reviewers and experts in relevant disciplines directly related to the index.
