The Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces Command is responsible for organizing, preparing, and building formations for field and educational units, such as air defense groups, the Air Defense Forces Institute, the Maintenance and Technical Support Base, and the Air Defense Forces Center and school.
The Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces were established in 1956 as a part of the formation of the Artillery Corps within the Land Forces. In 1983, the Air Defense Corps was placed under the direct authority of the Chairman of the General Staff, and renamed "Air Defense." In 1984, Royal Orders were issued for the air defense to become the fourth independent branch of the armed forces, named the 'Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces' to expand its areas of responsibility and strengthen its relationships with other branches of the armed forces.
