The relevant government entities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have begun taking necessary measures to preserve vegetation and natural resources from the threat of extinction by establishing protected areas. These reserves help restore suitable environments for the growth of plants within their natural habitats. The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification, in collaboration with King Abdullah University for Science and Technology(KAUST), represented by the Center for Desert Agriculture, has implemented several significant projects. These include 'Mapping the Genomes of Endangered Plants in the Kingdom', developing the 'NCVC / KAUST' experimental station, and an environmental observatory to support desert agriculture These efforts aim to preserve plants, propagate and cultivate them, conserve the plant genetic resources in the Kingdom, and map their genomes. Main endangered plant species include juniper, Lebbeck, Talouqa, and Matumi.
