Al-Rajhi Mosque in Riyadh is a mosque built by Sheikh Sulaiman Bin Abdulaziz al-Rajhi in al-Jazeera neighborhood of the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh. It was inaugurated by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, when he was the Governor of Riyadh Province in 2004.

Architecture and design of al-Rajhi Mosque in Riyadh

The mosque includes several facilities that serve visitors for performing prayers, memorizing the Quran, and attending religious events and lectures. It is one of the important Islamic institutions in Riyadh and is equipped with an interpretation system for four languages, in addition to sign language for the deaf.

The mosque was built on an area of 13,260 m, with a total building area of 43,568 m. Its design incorporates the Andalusian style, featuring two minarets each fifty-five m high, a main dome with a diameter of 28.8 m, and a height of thirty-seven m above ground level. The mosque also has a central interior hall with a height of twenty-five m, covered by a glass ceiling that allows natural light to enter.

Facilities of al-Rajhi Mosque in Riyadh

The large area of the mosque has been utilized to integrate all religious activities, functioning as a religious institution that offers many services. The prayer area spans 3,600 m. The men's prayer area consists of three floors and can accommodate about 18,000 worshippers, while the women's prayer area consists of two floors and can accommodate about 2,500 worshippers.

The Library of al-Rajhi Mosque is one of the scientific libraries that assist researchers and students in their scientific research and studies. It contains 67,000 volumes on Islamic jurisprudence, literature, applied sciences, cultural books, and more. The library is also equipped with devices for internet browsing and reading, and it includes a section dedicated to young children and toddlers.

The mosque's facilities also include media offices designated for accredited charitable organizations to introduce their objectives and services to individuals and the community. Additionally, there is a multipurpose hall, a reception hall for distinguished guests, and a reception hall for the families of the deceased.

The mosque also features washing facilities for the deceased, designed according to the latest specifications of the time. These facilities can accommodate eleven funerals simultaneously, with six designated for men, five for women, and a separate washing area for decomposed bodies.

Due to the various activities and the large number of attendees, multi-story parking facilities were constructed to serve the mosque's visitors. These parking facilities cover an area of 2,100 m and can accommodate about 350 cars, in addition to the capacity for another 350 cars in various parking areas around the mosque.

Al-Rajhi Mosque's religious activities in Riyadh

Among the religious activities at the mosque are the organization of Quran memorization, recitation, and Tajweed classes for students of all ages. There are about forty classes, with approximately 378 students annually. Each year, more than fifty-six students complete the memorization of the Quran, and around 117 students receive certification.

The mosque also hosts Dar al-Bayan Women's Institute, which teaches female students of all ages Quran recitation, Tajweed, and memorization. The institute offers up to twenty-three classes annually, with approximately 398 female students. Each year, around sixty-three female students complete the memorization of the Quran, and about fourteen female students receive certification.

The use of technology in al-Rajhi Mosque in Riyadh

In line with the technological development in Dawa and Islamic work, the electronic al-Maqraa was established, which is a global educational platform for teaching the Holy Quan with its various recitations. The number of sessions is about fifty, with 1,022 students annually.

The mosque's administration adopts comprehensive electronic control technologies used in all central and operational units. It is equipped with a system to monitor and maintain the mosque's facilities. The sound system in the mosque operates according to advanced acoustic engineering standards, and there is also a comprehensive surveillance system using centralized imaging.
