Okaz Newspaper is a newspaper in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Its first issue was published in Taif City, Makkah al-Mukkaramah Province, on May 28, 1960. It is issued daily by the Okaz Organization for Press and Publication. It is headquartered in Jeddah.

Founding of Okaz Newspaper

The ownership of the newspaper, previously held by an individual, was transferred to a civil society institution following a Royal Decree issued in 1964, which ended individual ownership of local magazines and newspapers. As a result, a decision was made to establish the institution with twenty-eight members, each holding ten shares valued at SAR1,000 per share. In total, the newspaper's capital amounted to SAR280,000. The first issue under the new law was published on October 17, 1964.

Okaz Newspaper evolution

During its early stages, the newspaper employed manual and conventional production methods to develop journalistic content. Calligraphers were recruited to write headlines. Moreover, non-modern imaging devices were utilized to fill paper pages with printable objects for traditional printing houses. Consequently, printing used a more advanced template through modern technologies. On the other hand, the Okaz website was launched to make it easier for readers to access its content and issues digitally.

The Okaz Newspaper website

The newspaper has a website that makes it easy for readers to access its contents and issues digitally. It includes several sections, namely: local political news, Arab and international sports news, economy, culture, art news, articles of opinion writers, and other fields, such as fashion, tourism, technology, and others, in addition to a special section for browsing daily issues.

Okaz Newspaper's visual identity

In 2019, the newspaper launched its new identity, as this change involved all of Okaz's paper and electronic newspaper platforms.
